6- 13 Sep. 2025:
This holiday explores the history behind the railway lines that once ran through this area. Most of the rides are on the former railways themselves so are relatively flat. Lights will be needed as we cycle through many tunnels. The pace will be leisurely, and there will be the opportunity to stop frequently to talk about aspects of the railways. For this year we have turned the ride around in the opposite direction.
Detailed itinerary below.
Transfer from Alicante airport to arrive at your accommodation in Denia, check in and assemble your bike (if bringing your own).
Ride from Denia to Villalonga along the former railway line, part of the Denia to Carcaixent line which closed in 1974. 42kms. 303m.
From Villalonga we pick up the Serpis Via Verde, faithfully following the railway line to Cocentaina. 36kms. 610m.
We visit the interesting town of Bocairent using the Xixarra railway line. Bocairent is one of the most visited towns in the Valencia region. 46kms. 540m.
A chance to have a day off to explore Cocentaina or have a short local ride.
We take the Alcoy Via Verde, which would have carried the railway line to Alicante. 39kms. 560m.
Continue on the line towards Alicante, now called the Maigmo Via Verde. Our ride ends in Torrellano, close to Alicante airport for your return. 60kms. 396m.
