This holiday explores some of the history behind the railway lines that once ran through this area. Most of the rides are on the former railways themselves so are relatively flat. Lights will be needed as we cycle through many tunnels. The pace will be leisurely, and there will be the opportunity to stop frequently to talk about aspects of the railways.
Detailed itinerary below.
Transfer from Alicante airport to arrive at your accommodation, check in and assemble your bike.
If your arrival time is early enough there will be time for a short ride to familiarise yourself with the area, and check for any problems with your bike.
A short ride today to Gaianes. We will see where the river Serpis feeds the lake below Beniarres. 23kms.
The Serpis Via Verda today to Lorcha, although we will reach the village by road and return on the railway line. 45kms.
We visit the interesting town of Bocairent using one of the old railway lines that traverse the area, with its fascinating window caves. 46kms.
We take the Alcoy Via Verde through many tunnels (lights needed). The railway line climbs very gently towards Ibi. We return more or less the same way. 38kms.
A day off the bike. We can chill out or take a walk up to the imposing castle above Cocentaina.
Today we leave the railways behind, so a hillier day, to experience some of the best El Comtat has to offer. Hilly, but short enough to be able to take our time. 36kms.
Holiday ends after breakfast. Transfer to Alicante airport.
